Etymology: Secondary formation to ἐρέθω (s.v.) for *ὀροθέω after θαρσύνω, ὀτρύνω a.o. (cf. Risch 253); not with Fraenkel Denom. 39 and Debrunner IF 21, 86 assimilated from *ἐρεθύνω. Positing a noun *ὄροθος (considered s. ἐρέθω) is superfluous.
